How Often Should I Go For A Reading?

I had a really wonderful reading with a sweet client the other day who was grieving her husband who had passed away just 4 months prior to her visit with me.
His spirit came through even before she arrived, giving me the smell of cigarette smoke (his guilty pleasure) and his first name. When she arrived for her reading, I told her George had been waiting since morning to visit with her and she immediately brought her hands to her face and started to cry.
We had a great visit with his spirit. His spirit was alive! He teased her just like he did when he was on this earth and he made her laugh. He used their special term of endearment for her. He showed me the city and the place where they met, as well as the car they used to go on their first date at the Drive-In (it was a convertible and he was super proud of it). He showed me he was with their beloved dog and was watching over their 3 children. He saw his youngest son graduate from university. He intimated that inside the cedar chest in their home, was a message in an envelope, hidden years earlier. (she confirmed this in a text when she got home).
His visit and his message was full of love. He was not hurting anymore (he was in a lot of pain before he passed); he was busy and working; he knew a great grandchild was on the way and he would be watching over her; that the love between he and his beloved wife was everlasting.

The reading lasted a little more than an hour and when my client was ready to leave, she hugged me tight and thanked me. She told me she felt lighter than she had since George passed, and could she come back next month for another visit?
My heart sank. I had to tell her no, but if she could wait to come back in 4 to 6 months, I would be happy to do another reading with her. I also told her there was no guarantee that George would come back to visit again. I always ask my guides to allow me to give my clients the messages meant for their greatest good. Sometimes the same soul comes back. Sometimes, it does not. No guarantees.
I believe that we are essentially a spirit living a human existence, and a human existence is sometimes unbearably sad. We love and we connect and we attach to other humans, animals and things, and when those attachments and connections are broken, through our choice or through death, it hurts like no words can describe.

Having a reading and making a connection with a loved one in the process can be a liberating experience, and it can provide us with happiness in the midst of our grief. It can help us to sort through our confusion, help us to realize that we will be reunited when our time comes, and that their spirit is very much alive. But a reading is not meant to take the place of our grief.
I believe that we are meant to experience all of the raw emotions, the good ones and the bad ones that come with being human. I believe it is important to realize that the human experience is just that: a human experience in all of its painful, glorious beauty. That is why I have that boundary in place. Wait at least 4-6 months between readings. Personally, I go once a year to 2 different people. Each uses their own talents and gifts for their readings, but are consistent with the messages in my life.
There is never a guarantee that the spirit we want to connect with in a reading will be the one that shows up. Sometimes they do show up, but sometimes it is the spirit of the kid in grade 3 who you knew and were kind to. They see an opening and swoop in to say hello. We are here for such a short time really, and there is much that we don't know or understand.
By the way, that kid from grade 3, says thanks...
